Administrative Assistant: Gainesville, Virginia

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is seeking an administrative assistant to provide support to all staff and departments. Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

-screening and handling phone calls
-greet and direct visitors including clients
-drafting and editing correspondence, memoranda and other documents
-organizing and maintaining project files
-maintaining various databases
-proposal production and contract initiation
-scheduling and meeting/event logistics
-preparing hard and soft copy project folders and reports
-maintaining and ordering office and field supply inventories
-miscellaneous errands

The ideal candidate will have a passion for quality work with excellent organizational abilities and strong attention to detail. Must work well under pressure and be able to manage several priorities in a day; must be adaptable, creative and self-motivated.

Qualifications:
-BA/BS degree preferred
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook; familiarity with MS Access a plus
-Excellent oral and written communication skills

Environmental Technician: Gainesville, Virginia

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) is seeking an entry-level candidate familiar with performing wetland delineations; preparing federal and state Clean Water Act permit applications and other technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues. Strong knowledge of/experience in one or more of the following fields desired:  plant identification (including trees/shrubs), soil profiling, benthic macroinvertebrate collection/identification; general natural history knowledge/interest required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable, with a willingness to travel regionally. BA/BS required, MS desirable. Entry-Level Engineer (Civil/Environmental/Biological): Millersville, Maryland

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) is seeking an entry-level civil/environmental engineer or biological engineer interested in wetlands, streams, and water resources to join our growing Maryland Team. Desired start date August – September 2016. Projects include stream restoration, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, and floodplain studies. Ideal candidate will have from 0 to 4 years of experience, EIT, and knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TR-55, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs.  While an engineering background is preferred, candidates with a background in environmental science and/or hydrology and the technical ability to perform the aforementioned tasks will also be considered.

Senior Archeologist (Archeology Field Supervisor): Gainesville, Virginia

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., is currently accepting applications for a Senior Archeologists/Archeology Field Supervisor for immediate temporary, project-based, full-time employment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Management of archeological fieldwork including Phase I, II, and III excavations, archeological cemetery delineations, and archeological recovery of human remains;
  • Preparation of complete plans and reports;
  • Conducting archeological research; and
  • Assisting with proposals and interacting with clients, officials and contractors.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • An advanced degree in Archeology, or a closely related field and at least one year of experience in the management of archeological field projects;
  • Willingness to travel (per diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 90 miles from the office);
  • Physical ability to perform rigorous fieldwork in all settings and weather conditions;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • Over three years of experience in professional archeological research in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern, or Mid-West regions;
  • RPA; and
  • Experience in managing archeological projects in urban environments.

 Archeological Laboratory Technician: Gainesville, Virginia

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., is currently accepting applications for an Archeological Laboratory Technician for immediate temporary, project-based, full-time employment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Process and catalog materials according to schedule in a busy lab environment;
  • Process and inventory prehistoric and historic artifacts for analyses and curation as necessary;
  • Enter artifact collections into customized SQL/Access Database;
  • Filing and scanning of archeological records;
  • Artifact photography and photo editing; and
  • Laboratory maintenance and organization.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archeology, museum studies, or related field
  • Prior archeological laboratory experience;
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and word processing;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
  • Ability to work under direct supervision and/or independently in order to accomplish project goals;
  • Attention to detail throughout repetitive tasks; and
  • Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work as a member of a cohesive team.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in Archeology, or a closely related field and at least one year of full time archeological laboratory experience; and
    Strong knowledge of eighteenth and nineteenth-century material culture of the mid-Atlantic region.

Archeological Field Technician: Gainesville, Virginia

Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., is accepting applications for Archeological Field Technicians for immediate temporary, project-based, full-time employment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in archeological survey, excavations and laboratory work under the direction of staff archeologists;
  • Artifact identification and processing;
  • Preparing accurate field notes and documentation; and
  • Interpretation of soil strata, preparation of field maps depicting the locations of excavations, site/feature boundaries, historic standing structures, and other notable features within the project area.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Archeology or a closely related field and successful completion of an archeological field school or at least three months of field experience;
  • Willingness to travel (per diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 90 miles from the office);
  • Physical ability to conduct archeological surveys in a variety of settings including urban and rural areas;
  • Physical ability to safely lift 50 pounds;
  • Physical ability to walk to and within project sites over a variety of different terrains in all kinds of weather and standing or walking for long periods of time; and
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
