Accotink Stormwater TMDL Lawsuit |
Fairfax County and VDOT filed a lawsuit on July 12, 2012 against the EPA to stop the implementation of the Accotink Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) requirements. The fact that Fairfax County's Board of Supervisors, a leader in Environmental Protection, put aside politics and joined forces with VDOT illustrates the unbearable magnitude of the requirements of the Accotink TMDL (Field Notes Vol 19 No. 3), which would affect both governments and all land owners in the watershed.

INDUSTRY ALERT: Fairfax County Topographic Data |
The Fairfax County GIS and Mapping Services currently offers for purchase a GIS Digital Data product titled "Countywide Property & Topography." Included in the data is topography of the southeast and northeast quadrant of the county showing a 2' contour interval based on the vertical datum, North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). Please note that NAVD 88 is not approved or permitted for land development projects submitted to Fairfax County. The use of the 2' contours based on NAVD 88 datum for planning or design could have significant impacts to project costs and schedules. There is also countywide topography showing a 5' contour interval based on the county's required vertical datum, National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD 29).

WSSI to Host PaveDrain® Seminar |
WSSI will host "Innovations in Pavement and Managing Storm Water Runoff," presented by PaveDrain®, at its Gainesville, VA office on August 2, 2012. The seminar will discuss the PaveDrain system, which consists of a Permeable Articulating Concrete Block/Mat (P-ACB/M) that creates a performance pavement by utilizing the patented arched reservoir to maximize onsite stormwater capacity during storm events. This improves the typical storm hydrograph and increases environmental performance while reducing stormwater infrastructure costs.
