COMPLIANCE ALERT – All Stream Crossing Culverts Must be Countersunk


The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is inspecting culvert installations during project compliance visits and has requested as-built surveys to be provided in cases where it is suspected that culverts have not been installed properly.

WSSI Hydraulic Dredging Capability Solves Unique Challenges at
Lake Anne

WSSI has expanded its suite of pond and lake maintenance capabilities through the acquisition of a floatable sediment removal system (hydraulic dredge). The hydraulic dredge is ideal for servicing forebays, smaller ponds and lake coves that many traditional dredging systems cannot access. In addition, WSSI's system allows for on-site dewatering - which saves money by greatly reducing the volume of material that must ultimately be disposed of and often can be reused as a highly organic top soil or planting media.

NRDC Rooftops to Rivers II Recognizes 14 Cities for Green Infrastructure Solutions

Cities of all sizes are saving money by employing green infrastructure as part of their solutions to stormwater pollution and sewage overflow problems. In an effort to help promote these practices, the Natural Resources Defense Council's (NRDC) Rooftops to Rivers II provides case studies for 14 geographically diverse cities that are all leaders in employing green infrastructure solutions to address stormwater challenges -- simultaneously finding beneficial uses for stormwater, reducing pollution, saving money, and beautifying cityscapes.

LID Seminar

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) will be hosting the Virginia Association of Professional Soil Scientists (VAPSS) 2012 Spring Technical Session March 23, 2012. The event, titled "Stormwater Management and How Soil Scientists can Play Their Part", will feature a full day of technical sessions followed by a tour of Low Impact Development (LID) practices utilized at the WSSI facility and a field trip to local development(s).
