COE Proposes Changes to Nationwide Permits

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) is proposing the reissuance and modification of the existing nationwide permits (NWPs). The COE also proposes to issue two new NWPs and one new general condition (GC). The current group of NWPs are set to expire on March 18, 2017.

Community Partners of the Year: WSSI Honored by Reston Association

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited (NVATU), and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) were honored on April 12 as Reston Association’s Community Partners of the Year; the group has teamed with Reston Association (RA) for six years to sponsor the Reston Kids' Trout Fishing Day. The annual event – the largest of its kind in the Commonwealth – attracts hundreds of kids with their families to a one-mile long reach of Snakeden Branch that WSSI restored seven years ago as part of the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank (NVSRB).

WSSI Gets Bug-Eyed With Reston Association!

On March 10, 2016 Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) hosted a benthic macroinvertebrate identification class for members of the Reston Association and South Lakes High School faculty. Benthic macroinvertebrates are animals without backbones that live in freshwater aquatic habitats and are visible with the naked eye, such as aquatic insects, crustaceans, worms, clams, and snails.
