Kids' Trout Fishing Day – Back by Popular Demand!

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), Reston Association (RA), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), and Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited (NVATU) will sponsor the second Reston Kids' Trout Fishing Day.

Over 500 children and parents turned out for last year's event, with many requesting to make the day an annual occurrence. Due to this outstanding response, hundreds of rainbow trout will again be stocked in a section of Snakeden Branch, between Soapstone Drive and Lake Audubon (Map), that WSSI restored in the spring of 2009 as part of the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank. Children ages 2 – 12 are invited to fish for free between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, and participants will each have the chance to keep up to four fish. See the Location Map for information on where to park, register and fish.

A few lucky anglers with their catch!

DGIF will have a limited number of fishing rods available for use (please contact RA's Ha Brock at 703-435-7986 or habrock@reston.org to reserve a rod), and bait will be provided. Additionally, volunteers from WSSI, RA, DGIF, and NVATU will be on hand to help with fishing, baiting hooks, and cleaning your catch. This event offers a unique opportunity for local children to experience the outdoors in a way in which they may not normally have the chance.
