Kids' Trout Fishing Day 2016

Early morning fishing at NVSRB
On Saturday, March 19, 2016, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), along with Reston Association (RA), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited (NVATU), and the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia will sponsor the Sixth Annual Reston Kids’ Trout Fishing Day.

Hundreds of rainbow trout will be stocked in a section of Snakeden Branch, between Soapstone Drive and Lake Audubon (Map), that WSSI restored in the spring of 2009 as part of the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank. Children ages 2 – 12 are invited to fish for free between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, and participants will each have the chance to keep up to four fish. See the Location Map for information on where to park register and fish.

Proud angler with her catch!
Volunteers from WSSI, RA, DGIF, and NVATU will be on hand to help with fishing, baiting hooks, and cleaning your catch. Additionally, there will be a limited number of fishing rods available for use (click here to reserve a rod.) Bait will be provided. Please register by March 14 to help gauge the amount of supplies that will be needed.

This event offers a unique opportunity for local children to experience the outdoors in a way in which they may not normally have the chance. For additional information, please contact Scott Petrey or Mark Headly.
